For those who are drawn even further into nature, a varied and idyllic landscape with great nature reserves and long beaches awaits around Kiel.

Old Botanical Garden

Immerse yourself in another world - Located directly on the Kiellinie, the Old Botanical Garden with its winding paths and small wooden bridges is reminiscent of a fairytale forest. Characterized by its old tree population and its exotic and extraordinary flower splendor, the garden is a real highlight. During a walk through the hilly terrain, various small biotopes can be marveled at. A lookout pavilion with a wrought-iron crown towers above the park. Enjoy the magnificent view over the picturesque park and the Kiel Fjord from here.

Forstbaumschule 

Kiel's oldest park - a walk through the grounds in the style of an English landscape garden allows you to admire a variety of extraordinary trees. But a visit to the historic park landscape is not only worthwhile for walking. In the middle of the park is the restaurant and park cafe of the same name, the Forstbaumschule. Especially in nice weather, the large beer garden invites you for a refreshing drink.

Schrevenpark 

Only a short distance from Holtenauer Straße, Schrevenpark invites you to take a break. Not for nothing is the park a popular meeting place for many young people and families. With a view of the Schreventeich, the large meadow offers opportunities for sunbathing, picnicking and relaxing. Tasty snacks and drinks are available at Café Castello directly in the park, or in one of the surrounding cafes. For children, there is a large playground in the park and dogs also get their money's worth in the outdoor enclosure.

Nature park Westensee 

The Westensee Nature Park is just the right place for everyone who is looking for recreation. Whether extensive bike tours, beautiful walks, or a cozy picnic - here everyone gets his money's worth. In the midst of idyllic nature is the Westensee, which gives the place its name. The vantage point from the Tüteberg you can enjoy a great view over the beautiful landscape, which even reaches Kiel.

Arche Warder 

As a zoo for endangered domestic and farm animal breeds, the Warder Ark tries not only to preserve but also to strengthen the biodiversity of the oldest European animal breeds. During a walk through the extensive grounds, in addition to chickens and donkeys, many other animal species threatened with extinction can be observed at close range. But the Warder Ark is much more than just an animal park. In the newly opened visitor center you can learn more about the history of the animals and their importance for humans and their development.

Projensdorfer woods

A short trip into the countryside - about 20 minutes from Kiel city center lies the Projensdorfer Gehölz on the western shore of the Kiel Fjord. Here you will find exactly the right place to switch off and recharge your batteries during an extensive walk in the woods. In addition to extensive walking trails, a special nature experience for the whole family awaits you. In the middle of the forest is the animal enclosure Tannenberg. Fallow deer and wild boar, Scottish Highland cattle and mouflons can be observed here at close range.

Cliffs of Stohl 

On one side the open sea, on the other green fields. Let the wind blow around your nose and the sun shine on your face on this coastal path. High above the beach you can enjoy the view of the passing ships and the endless blue from the path. Below the cliff is a partly stony beach, which can be reached via a long wooden staircase.

Botanical Garden Kiel

The Kiel Botanical Garden is part of the Botanical Institute of Kiel Christian Albrechts University and can look back on an impressive history of 350 years. In the greenhouses and outdoor areas, the garden houses about 14,000 different plant species, which are used for research purposes as well as for teaching. Have fun strolling through the many different themed worlds!

Strande

Great hiking trails along the Baltic Sea await you around the old fishing village Strande. With a view of the sea, you can take a break from everyday life here. As a special highlight, the trails lead directly along the Bülk lighthouse. From a height of 22 meters, the viewing platform of the lighthouse offers a breathtaking view of the idyllic coastal landscape.
